Hawkwell Village

Hello, thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

We are Hawkwell Village u3a and are proud to be members of The Third Age Trust which is the national representative body for the u3a movement in the UK. Hawkwell Village u3a is a Registered Charity number 1178118

u3a stands for University of The Third Age and each u3a is a democratic self-funded, self managed organisation which exists to provide a full range of activities for men and women, no longer in full time employment, at minimal cost. They draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their members to organise interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership.

WHERE ARE WE?

We are situated in Hawkwell, Essex - and as our logo says 37 miles from London and 6 miles from Southend.

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month (except December) at Hawkwell Village Hall, 210 Main Road, Hawkwell, Hockley Essex SS5 4EH 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Our meetings usually include a guest speaker and to date we have covered a varied selection of interests. We have introduced a book swap where members can bring along their unwanted novels and swap them for something new.

Our u3a was established in January 2014. We currently have 200 Full Members and up to 150 Affiliate Members who are able to enjoy a variety of group interests and social events.

Our Annual Full Membership Fee is £15 which includes a fee payable to The Third Age Trust which provides a wide range of services and benefits, including liability insurance cover. If you belong to another u3a, the Annual Membership Fee is reduced by the amount of the fee, providing you can supply proof of membership. Membership fees are calculated pro-rata when joining part way through the membership year (1st May to 30th April)

We also offer an Affiliate Membership as we are unable to accommodate more than 200 members in our hall. This is at a reduced rate of £12 which includes a fee payable to The Third Age Trust which provides a wide range of services and benefits, including liability insurance cover per year. Affiliate Members are entitled to the benefits that a Full Member has but cannot attend AGM's, join the Committee or attend Monthly Meetings.

As a member you will receive two magazines from The Third Age Trust – Third Age Matters, published 5 times per year and Sources published 3 times per year.

Currently we do not have any vacancies in our Full Membership however we welcome applications for Affiliate Membership.
